This is a peice of an article on my dad, Pete Binion, and my brother, Wade.  They have competed in this challenging race for over 10 years.  This year they won!  This is a 2-3 day race filled with rapids, snakes and alligators.  The men and women have to pack everything they need in the boat including food.  They are only allowed water to be given to them by a team captain, no one is allowed to touch the competitors or the boat untill they are finished.  Many of the men never sleep stopping only to stretch their legs.  This is a race that begins with many and ends with few.  I might add that my sister Mollie has also done this race in the past.  In the picture above my dad is the first man in the boat and my brother is right behind him in the blue pants.

Cottonmouth team coasted to finish after competition ran into trouble

“One of those records this year will go to Team Cottonmouth’s Pete Binion, who at age 57 became the oldest person to be on a winning team in the Texas Water Safari.

Hansen said having Binion on the team was definitely a good thing.

“I have a lot of respect for Pete,” Hansen said. “I met Pete in 1992 when I did my first Water Safari. I was in a little plastic kayak and I had no race experience. But he talked to me as if I was not an idiot, which I was actually, and he gave me some wonderful advice.

“Over the years, he has trained hard and really paid his dues. He deserves all the accolades that he gets now. He’s recently lost a lot of weight and ran his first marathon now well into his 50s. Pete’s really quite an example for people to get off the couch and make something of themselves. He matched the Belizeans stroke for stroke down the river, he carried his weight and was an equal member of this team.”

Team Cottonmouth and the winners in the other classes will be honored today at noon at Bayfront Park in Seadrift.”

Highlights from Super Walmart

Filed under: Uncategorized — ptice @ 3:29 am

Today after VBS I decided to go to Super Walmart.  Our living room light went out and I needed to get some lightbulbs.  My posse consisted of Tristin, Trey, Tai, Anastasia, and Payton.  When we went in everyone was in good spirits so I decided to get some groceries while I was there.  Bad idea.  Here are some of the highlights.

1.  Tai lost one of her flip flops and after five minutes of backtracking I spotted it in the basket.

2.  Tai asked if she could pretty-please hold the eggs and I let her after Anastasia told me it was not a good idea.  One minute later 6 eggs were cracked on the ground.

3.  One of the kids had to go “number 2” and we had to spend 20 minutes in the bathroom.

4.  When I got home I realized I had shoplifted an onion in my purse.

5.  I forgot the lightbulbs and the living room is still dark.
